Grand Canyon University: what the AI policy allows in discussion posts
Source: GCU Student Policy for AI Use, last checked 2026-10-13. This page paraphrases; the policy governs.
What GCU allows
- Brainstorming and generating study questions
- Help with grammar, organization, or initial drafting, provided you remain the author
- APA formatting suggestions while you complete the citation work yourself
What GCU prohibits
- Using AI to impersonate your voice or bypass genuine engagement in peer replies, discussion boards, or group reflections
- Submitting AI-generated work without disclosure
Do you have to disclose AI use at GCU?
Yes. GCU expects you to acknowledge AI assistance in the work it touched.
Disclosure line in GCU's shape
AI disclosure: I used an AI writing coach for brainstorming, organization, and APA formatting suggestions on this post. I remain the author; the ideas, analysis, and wording are my own.
When are GCU discussion posts due?
- Initial post: saturday by 11:59 PM AZ (Two discussion questions per week; first due Day 3, second Day 5. GCU weeks run Thursday to Wednesday.)
- Replies (3): wednesday by 11:59 PM AZ (Three substantive responses on three separate days.)
- Initial post length: 150 to 250 words
- Reply length: 150 to 250 words
How the coach stays inside this policy
- You write the point and your stance first; the coach develops them and never generates from nothing.
- The classmate's post is never pasted in; you summarise it in your own words in a 400-character field.
- Every citation comes from a verified DOI; the reference list is built from the journal's metadata.
- The disclosure line above is added to every draft, and a session transcript is one click away.
